MEET THE PIGEONS : LUCY

Today we’re catching up with our Surry Hills store manager, Lucy! Starting her Pigeonhole journey over in Perth before heading across to Sydney, we're so thankful to have been able to keep her part of the team! With one of the brightest smile you'll find on either side of the country, we're excited to learn even more about her! Let's get started...

Tell us! What do people call you?

Lucy, Luce, Lucy Goose, I’m not picky!

How long have you been with us now?

I started in 2011… I think? I’m losing track…

Oh, wow! You’re actually currently our “oldest” pigeon! How did you originally join the flock?

I was originally hired as a gift wrapper over the Christmas period, but as I was meant to be based outside and it was raining for all my shifts (which is crazy when you think about it for December in Perth). I ended up in the stock room working alongside Big Bird Johann. This is how we got to know each other and I ended up working in the stores as the youngest Pigeon they'd ever seen.

So, you started over in Perth! Where can we find you now?

These days I'm a Surry Hills pigeon but I've worked all over WA and NSW.

You sure have been around the block! Now you’ve experienced it from all corners, what would you say is the best part of being a pigeon?

Spending time and working alongside the wonderful and supportive team here. They're the reason I'm still here so many years later!

Aw, that’s so nice to hear. Is there a particular Pigeon you think is worth noting to interview in the future?

I have the pleasure of running the Surry Hills store alongside Fa Lee, who outside (and inside) our company is also an amazing visual artist with her own brand of sculptured car air fresheners that she makes by hand, which I'm in love with. We've recently started selling her brand in store which has been so wonderful to introduce to all our customers.

We LOVE Fa’s work! Don’t worry, she’s definitely on our list. How about brands? Do you have a favourite amongst our current range?

I am OBSESSED with Herbivore, which is an all-natural skincare brand with really unique products that contain no chemicals. I use their Orchid Oil in the morning and their Phoenix Oil at night, and they have been like magic potions for my skin.

Okay, we’re definitely taking this tip on board because your skin really is MAGIC. So, tell us! Where can we find you when you’re not at Pigeonhole?

Running my theatre company New Ghosts, which I use as a platform to write, produce and direct independent theatre in Sydney. The show I'm currently spending all waking hours on is called YEN and will be opening at Kings Cross Theatre in Sydney this September. Look out for the flyers when you come shopping at Pigeonhole around then!

We’ll be sure to put the link down below! Let’s get into the fun questions! What’s your spirit animal?

I would love to say fox because they're my favourite but realistically probably a meerkat because I'm always very alert and bouncy - like I've constantly just had a 2 shot coffee.

HAHA, you’re our favourite kind of bouncy! On that note, are you a coffee drinker or do you prefer tea?

Coffee – though I’m currently being converted, but I’m not there yet…

Keep us updated on that one.  What would you do if you won the lotto?

Build my own house with a theatre in the basement.

Wow! We definitely want in on that housewarming party invite list! Let’s go a bit deeper! What’s something people don’t know about you?

I'm also a drama teacher at the Australian Theatre for Young People!

You’ll have to share your tips with us in a blog post sometime! So when you’re not working, teaching or rehearsing, what does an ideal weekend look like for you?

Not getting out of bed until 3pm

We can imagine probably need the rest! Do you have a favourite thing about Sydney?

Our beautiful harbour on a sunny day or during the Vivid festival.

It sure is a sight to see, that’s for sure! Okay, last question! Where should we head for the best local eats in town?

If you're in Surry Hills a lot, About Life's cooked lunches are the best kept secret for eating well and without breaking the bank.
