A Pigeon's Guide To: Chippendale
Pigeonhole Central Park is located in Chippendale- one of Sydney's most vibrant and creative suburbs. Not familiar with the area? Well who better to show you around than Caitlin, our Pigeonhole Central Park Manager, who has been a local to the area for over 7 years now.
Favourite thing to do?
Sit on the Chippendale Green and people watch. Something about this space brings out the creative in people and it's such a joy to watch.
Favourite Shop?
After Pigeonhole (of course), the White Rabbit Gallery gift shop! I'm a sucker for a good arty postcard.
Favourite Cafe?
Café Giulia, with the best outdoor courtyard in the area- with bright blue walls, yellow cushions and cactuses, I feel like I'm in Arizona! Also they do the best Eggs on Toast with roasted tomatoes for just $10.90. A huge bargain for this part of the city.
Best Spot for a Date
I take my dates to the White Rabbit Gallery. Being a privately owned gallery the exhibitions are always unique, exciting and sometimes cheeky or challenging. And what is a better conversation starter than Art? It can become apparent pretty quickly how your values and world views align with each other. p.s. Did I mention it's free entry?
Best Coffee?
The Caffeine Project at Central Park Mall has $3.50 coffee with the first extra (extra shot/ different milk) FREE! So good for a Almond Mylk drinker like me.
Favourite Bar?
I go to SNEAKY POSSUM more time than I care to admit. With loads of personality, and a funny Scottish barman, it's always a hit with any friend I take here with me. The food is hearty and delicious, and there's a great selection of curated craft beers on tap.
Place to Boogie?
Freda's is an absolutely charming part cocktail bar, part live music venue and part community centre. This hideaway small bar down a little alleyway is the coolest place around to be yourself, let go, and have a boogie.
Best Kept Secret?
Goodspace Gallery on level 2 at the Lord Gladstone is a cool little community space hosting weekly exhibitions from local and international artists every Wednesday night. Round up some friends, grab a schooner of VB and have a wander through the two converted rooms and explore! AGAIN, this is free! Chippendale really is one of the most accessible cultural hubs in Sydney
